Mission Statement
Mid-City Magnet Center for Enriched Sciences is an urban school that strives to educate and graduate students that possess the skills necessary to compete in our diverse society by providing:
- Clear and High Expectations
- Meaningful and Appropriate Assessments
- Guidance to Develop Healthy Community of Learners
- A Culturally Sensitive, Nurturing, Learning Environment
Vision Statement
The vision of Mid-City Magnet Center for Enriched Sciences is to
provide innovative elementary learning experiences for students in grades 1-5
where students can think, learn, and investigate three possible branches of
science which may include – life, physical, and earth science. While grades 6
through 8 will be phased out by 2013, the commitment to the College and Career
Incentives program will continue for these students as they prepare for
post-secondary educational opportunities. Classroom experiences reflect
rigorous, standards-based, culturally relevant, interdisciplinary, and
differentiated opportunities designed to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Students in grades 1-5 and their instructors will partner with a soon to opened
sister school located in the West Valley, Center for Enriched Sciences. Here
students and teachers have the opportunity to allow students from urban and
suburban communities to participate in science activities that foster
interaction among students of different backgrounds as they engage in
exploration of the global awareness in the sciences around the city.
Specifically, teachers will partner for the purpose of field trips
and professional development. Students will regularly make use of technology
(podcasts, video conferencing, webinars and other online learning
opportunities) to share experiments and outcomes.
